The elected officials claim the North Lake area being blighted; however, check out the June 27, 1965-article in the
Sun "A Walk along Third street." The article threw its weight behind the mass demolition downtown area because if the disease
of blight is not treated blight would spread entire San Bernardino.
What happened to that particular Central City Mall project? The expert point out that if the 93 acres of historical
properties are replaced by a Mall the City would revitalize and create a destination for people to flock. The only destination
the carousal mall captured is a civic government as their anchor tenant.
The City has contributed blight in the proposed project for decades, and the vacant land parcels owned by the Municipal
Valley Water District needs a thorough weed abatement.
The only parcel saved in the project is owned by the City of San Bernardino (boys and girls) is "blighted"; however, blight
can be resolved with a coat of paint and landscaping. The residents should not carry the burden because the City failed to
provide funds distributed for the area.
